Leather is one of the most natural and versatile materials in the world. It has the potential to look great for a lifetime, and when well cared for, it offers many benefits – from protection, to style, to comfort and much more…
But it is not without its dark sides. Leather, animal skin, is a living material and therefore requires a certain amount of care to keep it looking good and remaining healthy, functional, wearable.
So here are 4 simple steps to leather care – whether it’s harnesses, harnesses, collars, belts, or anything made of leather.
1. IF THE LEATHER IS WET, DRY IT.
As soon as possible, gently remove (not by rubbing!) the excess liquid and let the rest air dry. Do not use a heat source to accelerate drying.
2. IF THE LEATHER IS DRY, HELP IT.
Massage the quality leather balm into the skin in circular motions and gently wipe off the excess with a clean cloth. For example, ours is ideal, which is made from Slovak beeswax and neetsfoot oil, which is a guarantee of high-quality natural skin hydration.
3. IF THE LEATHER IS DIRTY, CLEAN IT.
Start by always handling the leather with clean hands – oil and residue transfer easily to the leather. Once a week, briskly run over the surface with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Once or twice a year, remove any accumulated dirt around the metal components.
4. IF YOUR LEATHER IS NOT USED, STORE IT.
Proper storage is important when caring for leather products. Store the leather in a place away from heat, moisture, sunlight and dust – preferably in our cotton bag, which is included in every package.
When you take good care of your leather, it will become more beautiful, durable and interesting over time, reflecting its adventures – and therefore yours.
If you lack balms or bags for proper care, you can purchase them directly from our e-shop. We offer small cotton bags for chokers and large cotton bags that are suitable for women’s harnesses, webbing belts, and entire harness leather sets. The balms come in two weights: 20g and 50g.
